LIFE

I'm a 38-year-old artist based in the enchanting city of Freiburg, Germany, where I share my life with a loving family. While my professional path led me into the realm of geospatial data science and geoinformatics, my heart has always been drawn to the world of visual art since my childhood days. My artistic journey began with whimsical creations of monsters during my primary school years continued on with graffiti as I fully immersed myself in the skateboard and hip-hop culture and flourished when I chose to pursue fine arts as the primary subject for my Abitur at the local Gymnasium. Despite initially planning to pursue a career in art or become an art teacher, my path took a different turn, leading me into the study of environmental sciences with a specialization in data science and geoinformatics. This educational adventure culminated in a Masters degree, marking the beginning of my professional journey in research and consulting.  Yet, as life unfolded, I discovered that the call of art was persistent. Feeling a touch of fatigue, I sought solace in the familiar embrace of creative expression. What began as a coping mechanism soon evolved into a rekindled passion for art. However, instead of returning to traditional mediums like acrylics, markers, or spray paint, I ventured into the digital realm and embraced generative art. My artistic creations have now metamorphosed into the fusion of technology and imagination, as I bring scripts and programs to life on a digital canvas. The marriage of image processing, geospatial exploration and generative art has become the hallmark of my work. Join me on this captivating journey where science and art converge, giving life to a unique tapestry of creativity born from the synergy of my diverse experiences.

INSPIRATION

My earliest inspiration was the older brother of one of my kindergarden friends, who occasionally babysat my brothers and me. He was a very talented sketch artist and listening to heavy metal and playing Dungeons and Dragons which made him draw amazingly detailed fantasy characters like dwarves, wizards or dragons as gifts for us, while my brother and I watched him in awe. Throughout my teens, I found inspiration in the vibrant world of graffiti. The dynamic 3D styles of DAIM and the character-rich creations of WON captivated me early on, shaping my artistic sensibilities. Today, my admiration extends to the likes of MOSES and TAPS, the daring 1UP crew, and the eclectic collective Rocco und seine Brüder and, of course, Banksy. My formal art studies at Gymnasium further enriched my palette, drawing influences from Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism, and Art Nouveau. The masterpieces of J. M. W. Turner, Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Alphonse Mucha wove themselves into the fabric of my artistic identity. The lens of Ansel Adams' photography also found a special place in my creative vision.

PHILOSOPHY

Delving into my artistic philosophy, I grappled with questions about the essence of art and the identity of an artist. Striving to define these elusive concepts for myself, I discovered that interpretations varied widely. In response, I forged my own understanding. For me, the crux of art lies in its symbolic function—an artwork transcends mere decoration when it resonates beyond conveying the visual information of its subject. The viewer's engagement and emotional response are pivotal; a depiction becomes art if it elicits feelings or memories. The symbiotic relationship between art and culture became a cornerstone of my perspective. I see culture as an elastic concept, intertwined with the impact of art on its participants. Art is not confined by boundaries; it can correspond to multiple cultures simultaneously. In my view, there is no dichotomy of good or bad art, only that which resonates with many or few. My artistic purpose centers on conveying a life-affirming message. I aim to spark curiosity and wonder, and if my art brings a smile to someone's face, I consider it a meaningful achievement.
